Turlin Moor Community School is located in what is perhaps the most socially deprived part of Poole in east Dorset. With many of the children not having access to their own private garden, having good quality school grounds becomes extremely important indeed. Working closely with the school staff we designed a new ‘outdoor classroom’ on a disused piece of land on the edge of the school site. The staff at the school produced an ambitious brief which resulted in an engaging new mini landscape which invites exploration and offers numerous curricular opportunities – from ukulele lessons in the re-purposed steel shipping container through to researching new pond life below the water’s surface, from the dipping platform.
