Millfields Park in Hackney is a well-used park containing a range of typical facilities, including a rather dated play area, which by 2014 had begun to show its age. In partnership with Timberplay as the main contractor, the practice worked with the Parks Department and Play Consultant Phil Doyle from Inspire 2 on proposals to upgrade this valued facility, so as to make the most of a very limited budget and also to reflect some of the recent changes in thinking in Play Design. The introduction of carefully-selected reclaimed sections of fallen oak trees carefully located within a generously sized deep bed of sand has given a new lease of life to this play space, with the new space proving popular with the numerous families who visit the play space regularly.
