Durlston Castle was constructed in a spectacular cliff-top location to the west of Swanage towards the end of the 19th century as part of a grand and ambitious scheme to develop the area for superior residential development. Following an earlier and highly successful HLF-funded restoration of the Castle, in 2013 the Heritage Lottery Fund invited Dorset County Council to submit an application for ‘Parks for People’ funding to restore the surrounding designed landscape, which over the years had fallen into disrepair. The practice has worked closely with the AONB team to develop the detailed proposals for this exciting site and the Stage 1 application is expected to be submitted in summer 2016.
