Landscape
conservation & restoration
Working with historic landscapes - parks and gardens,
churchyards and cemeteries - is immensely satisfying on
both an intellectual and emotional level. It demands a
wide range of skills, from the ability to research the
development of a landscape, to identifying the physical
clues which remain from the traces of the past, and
often most importantly, assessing the significance of
what remains so as to pinpoint where it might be
appropriate for new and contemporary 'interventions' to
occur.
At
St. Leonards Churchyard in
Streatham, south London, we raised £50,000 from a range
of charitable trusts for this Georgian churchyard which
had become the focus of anti-social behaviour, creating
an attractive space which was safe to use for all the
community.
The practice is able to assist with the preparation of
Conservation Management Plans; funding submissions; and
the implementation of new design which is appropriate to
and which respects the historic setting.
