Working
closely with Play Consultant Phil Doyle ASA has re-designed
this small space surrounded by family housing to create
a doorstep play space which local children will be able
to use by themselves without necessarily having adult
supervision.
A
large sandy space forms the focus of play for younger
children, whilst older children or just those who are
looking for a more challenging play experience enjoy
the climbing structure and tyre swing. The combination
of timber play equipment with the open grassy space
and gentle mounding has helped create a green oasis
in this densely built up part of east London. With additional
funding from Trees for Cities the existing perimeter
planting has been extended and the play space is now
surrounded by lush, scented herbaceous planting.
The whole scheme cost approximately £150,000 and was
completed in Spring 2010.
